Wk — Essay 2- Art

My perspective of art at the beginning of the semester was that art was anything and everything in the world, from architecture to food to actual exhibitions of art. Art is in the entire world. Even we are pieces of art, scientifically and religiously. Religiously, people believe that we were made by God and that we were made in his perfect image and to God we probably art. Scientifically, we are art because our bodies are made up of different groups of molecules like protons and electrons. Over the semester, I have done many art projects for class, and my opinion on art hasn’t changed. In fact, my opinion on art has been proven. For my last artist essay, I had to write about two college students showing off their thesis art exhibit which consisted of a bunch of different things like sawdust, a mobile room that belonged to one of the students, their woodworking tools, and rope that they dyed using wood. Lastly, a well-known artist took a urinal and named it a fountain which ended up being in an art museum.

I don’t really have a personal idea of what art is but if I had to say then art to me is a modern drawing or painting. For example, if there were a painting of the Disney character Stitch from the movie and tv show “Lilo and Stitch”, I would call that art. Or if someone were to draw a bunch of Marvel characters on the side of a shoe. Mainly, I think I would call modern video games art. I say this because video games have come a long way from being just pixels to games with graphics being so real that video games almost look like movies now.

My major is Film and Electronic Arts, specifically in post-production. In all honesty, my career goals are to just have a successful youtube channel. I believe that aesthetics and design could contribute to my career because of a certain game that I’m playing. I could also implement aesthetics into my editing. I believe that an application of aesthetics on both could work. More likely to my editing. When it comes to my editing, I think that aesthetics would work best during the transitions of my videos and in the background music as well. During my video, if I’m playing a scary game I could use aesthetics by making sure all the lights are off in my room and turning the volume of the game up in my headphones. If art were to come into my life, it would be from video games since I love playing video games. I’m not sure if art would make someone a more complete human being, but looking at art might help someone realize a career path or a hobby that they might be into.

Art definitely does matter. If artists didn’t exist, then the world would be a much sadder place than it is already. There would be no music, no art to look at, and no movies or tv shows. Everything would be silent and boring. It would be as if there was a zombie apocalypse with no zombies or a post apocalyptic world without an apocalypse. I do agree with the NEA’s quote “a great nation deserves great art” because truly it’s the only entertainment we have. General art and literal art. General art being tv, movies, video games, music, books, etc. Literal art being Portraits, paintings, drawings, etc. As I said before, art is very important to this nation because if we didn’t have art, then America would be a very boring nation. But as a great nation, we do deserve great art because we depend on it.

This semester I have learned that art is extremely subjective and that everyone has their own version of art. Art to me will continue to be everything in this world. Because art can be found at a beach or at a library, you just have to open your mind to see it. Even then it isn’t that difficult to see art. If you are at the beach, all a person would have to do is look at the sky and the ocean and you’ll see the art there. The art of the library is the art of knowledge because you’re reading books that could teach you a lot of things about the world or about art itself. Art will be in my life for the entirety of it. Because there’s even art in editing that makes videos and movies look very good and to some, it could take years to perfect this art depending on whether they are working in the tv industry or if you’re working in the youtube industry. Art will always be everywhere to me and I know that it will be in my life from this point on.
